     Paintings of people are at once the most difficult and rewarding I do: difficult because they seem to require greater fidelity to nature and a deeper, more personal, more caring involvement with one’s subject, rewarding because when all goes well, the paintings seem somehow to become their models.

     Only “J. at Angles” is new to this section in July, 2007: I’ve been stranded in assorted writing projects the past year and a half.
